a Winnipeg daily Newspaper, what was my astonishment and       Oct 16 [written in back/right margin]
affliction to read: That at St Boniface the flags were all at half mast… For a Télégram announcing the death of the Father General of the Oblates, had just arrived there… What a loss for our Congregation… R.I.P.
A solemn funeral service was celebrated this morning      19th [written in back/right margin]
for the repose of the Soul of our Father General … There was quite a good attendance at church to pray for him.
His Lordship Emile Legal, our Coadjutor Bishop arrived    Nov. 8th [written in back/right margin]
in Lethbridge last Friday afternoon Nov. 5th. Comming [sic] from MacLeod. On Saturday evening at 8 O’Clock, adresses [sic] were presented to His Lordship, in Church, by the members of the Societies : the C.M.B.A. – and St. John Baptist of the Szlavonians [sic].    His Lordship replied to the Congregation in general, and to the members of the associations in particular. There was a good gathering in Church for the occasion.    A Solemn Benediction with the Blessed Sacrament followed and terminated the reception.
Yesterday, Sunday, His Lordship said H. Mass at 8 O’Clock. If there had been any other priests, we would have had High Mass by the Bishop… a large number came to Communion at this first mass.
After High Mass, the Bishop addressed a few words on the H. Sacrament of Confirmation, and confirmed Ninteen [sic] of our parisheners [sic], most of them children who have made their first Communion, this or last year.
His Lordship gave a fine Sermon at the evening Service, speaking for nearly an hour on the persecutions of the Church of Christ;   A great snow storm was raging all the day, but notwithstanding the church was full in the morning.

Dec. 28th. [written in front/left margin] Christmass [sic] time with all its beautiful ceremonies in the Cath. Church has come and gone… This year again we had very solemn services in the Church. The midnight Mass was celebrated in the presence of a large Congregation, many of the whom were Protestants. The Anglican Minister occupied one of the front pews. The Church was as usual on such occasions beautifully decorated. A New carpet, “Brussels,” had been presented to the church the week previous; it covers the entire Sanctuary and costs $1.60 per yard. Mrs. Barclay together with some Kind friends are the donators of this handsome gift.
The singing was very good this year… a certain Mr. Lamb a surveyor on the Crows Nest Pass, gave us some fine solos.

Our hospital for several months is crowded with patients from the construction of our new railway. Inflamatory [sic] – Rheumatism and Mountain or Thyphoid [sic] fever are the most prominent cases. There are also a few frosen [sic] limbs. Hence the Priest must frequently visit these patients as many of them are Catholics. Thus far none have died.

The sad news arrives us from Calgary that the Reverend Father Lacombe our Veteran Missionary is suffering very much from an attack of, Lumbago; It seems the Rev & Father is prostrated for over two weeks and entirely helpless. Being Seventy One years of age and having never been sick in his life, the Rev & Father feels it badly. He has been transported to the Holy Cross hospital, conducted by the Grey Nuns of Montreal where he shall receive good attendance.
We have very fine weather ever since November
