lately erected at the Piegan Reservation, a neat church was built at Pincher Creek, and now a stone church was to rise up in Lethbridge for Catholic worship.
The building was to be 40+25 feet [underlined in blue] and covered with galvanised iron shingles.
Mr. Galt, the manager of the North West Coal and Navigation Comp. presented us with six Townlots; This being a piece of land 125+150 feet. The Bishop gave a loan of $1000°° to be repaid in yearly instalments of one hundred dollars with the interest of 5% -
The contract for the stonework was given to a certain Mr Gibbs. The carpenter work and plastering to Mr G. Cody.
The stone work of the church cost: $1480°°
The carpenter work and plasters: $1150°°
It was decided that St Patrick was to be the Patron Saint of the New church.
We took the opportunity of the presence of our good Bishop to celebrate the Jubilee Year…
Most of the Catholics approached the Holy Sacraments on this occasion.
Accompanying the Bishop were: Rev & Fathers Doucet – Claude – and Frere Boone.
During the Winter months all the necessary sandstone were taken out and transported up the Hill.
Early in the Spring work was begun. All the

window sills and ornamental stones had been prepared during the Winter, and everything was ready to lay the corner stone.
The ceremony was to be celebrated with solemnity.
The Catholic population of Lethbridge assembled on the site of the future Church; an organ had been brought on the spot to accompany the different Psalms and to give greater solemnity to the occasion. Father VanTighem having taken the holy vestments, made the introductory prayers, after which he went on to explain the ceremony. A discours [sic] on the Catholic Church, as being the house of God followed. The Psalms were song [sic], The corner stone blessed – the prescribed documents duly inclosed [sic] in the cavity of the rock; the stone was moved to its place on the North West corner of the building.
