May 15 [written in back/right margin] that this was the object of his long journey – and how glad he was, when he returned to announce the good news… His father sent us a fine lettre [sic] afterwards thanking us for the interrest [sic] we took in his Son and confessing that he was very proud to see him a Catholic. Both father and mother of the child are Baptist Protestants.
The High Mass took place at 10 O’clock, Mr. Barclay, a prominent protestant of the town, Superintendent of the Coal Company was present, for his only daughter, Mamy, did her first Communion. The Ceremony was very imposing The rev.d Father Doucet celebrated the High Mass having arrived the day before.
Father VanTighem who had been instructing the children for 40 days, this is: since Easter Sunday, preached at High Mass. from the Text… Unless you eat the Flesh of the Son of Man… This plain and simple instruction seemed to have penetrated to the Soul of the hearers, especially of those who were not of the flock.
In the afternoon took place the renewal of the baptismal vows… the Consacration [sic] of the children to Mary the Mother of God.-
The children were also inrolled [sic] in the H. Scapular of Mount Carmel…
The general election is to take place on the 23th [sic] June of this month…. Sir Charles Tupper is the Premier of the Conservative, and Mr. Wilfried Laurier the Premier of the Liberal partie [sic].
The Manitoba School question is again thrown into politics and great excitement prevails every-.

where. It is to be hoped that the conservative party will be returned as they are in favor of remedial legislation for our brethren of Manitoba, who are now unjustly deprived of their Schools for six years.
A pastoral has been issued by the archbishops and bishops of Canada, re, the election and the duties of Catholics in this regard. Special prayers have been recommended by our own bishop to this intention. The two candidates for Alberta, or better the three, for a third one has lately appeared, are, J. I. Clarke from Calgary. T.B.H. Cochrane also from Calgary and F. Oliver from Edmonton… This last is the liberal candidate.
About Fifty Szlavonian [sic] Hungarian and Italien [sic] Catholics have been naturalised [sic] and will vote on this occasion. Father VanTighem, who until now had remained a Belgian has also become a British Subject.
June 19 [written in front/left margin] Over one hundred Cris Indians have arrived here from the United States. They are forbidden to stay there any longer and are turned over to the Canadian Government. These Indians had left Canada at the time of the rebellion in 1885. They will be located somewhere on the North Saskatchiwan [sic].
June 21 [written in front/left margin] Another Train brings over again a large band of Cris Indians from the from the States.
The weather is very dry, we have had no rain whatever during this Month of June.
29 [written in front/left margin] A message is brought over from the Police Barracks, saying that an Indian prisoner asketh [sic] to see the priest. In fact it is said
