Besides, Riel who had said absolutely that he would make us follow him now finding the task to [sic] heavy, and seeing no advantage in xxxxx from [crossed out] parting company with [written over the text] us, or, at least, chooses to follow in our path.
The novena began on March 10th; good Father Fourmond, on seeing the piety of his people during these holy exercises, shared in the hopeful sentiments of his fellow-priests ["s" crossed out]. "I took advantage of this novena, he [added] wrote, “to make a kind of little retreat during this time [crossed out], saying mass at nine o’clock in the morning, and giving benediction of the Most Holy Sacrement [sic] at four o’clock, with instruction morning and evening.
